Sally Mair - Loving life

Ravelston Woods

We woke to rain this morning but it cleared through the morning, I didn't feel any rush to go out though.
I did sort through the remnants of the very poor quality sweet pea seedlings which I bought from a reputable online plant and seed specialist and pot them on. They really need to improve their packaging. I got under 20 plantlets and should have had over 50.
After lunch we headed off to Ravelston Woods and spent our hour taking a leisurely stroll. It's lovely to see the woods springing to life I particularly relished the freshness of the many shades of green as the trees burst into new life. The flowers are out too, I spotted some Alkanet - like a greater speedwell but hairier, some celandine and some yellow archangel not to mention lots of bluebells, dandelions, wild garlic and daffodils. Some lovely ferns unfurling too. See extra.

It was so nice to be away from the roads and to enjoy the peace disturbed only by the birdsong. I spent about five minutes watching a mistle thrush as it scurried through the leaves.

Clapping for carers and essential workers at 8pm again, nice to see the neighbours out.

Friday tomorrow and the 1st of May. I think the traditional trip up Arthur's Seat to wash our faces in the dew will need to take place virtually this year in order to maintain social distancing.

Keep well and safe everybody, there's a beautiful summer ahead of us. Hopefully we'll all be around to enjoy it
