Gathering

Another view of the village, but a village in sombre mood. This morning everyone wandered down and lined the green and the road (2 metres apart of course) and waited. A few quiet words, but mainly silent.

Our neighbour Brenda, who lived in the village all her life and was well known and loved by everyone, died suddenly last week. She did not have the coronavirus, but, although she had been ill for a long while, no one expected her to be suddenly taken into hospital and to die a few days later. Gordon had given her a lift into Appleby to the medical centre for an appointment the week before and we were doing a bit of shopping for her and her brother whilst they were staying at home.

I think everyone was in shock and wondered how the village can be the village without her. She was the person who befriended me when we first moved into the village. A lovely lady.

In the present circumstances we could to pay our respects by standing by the side as the hearse went by . . . and so we did.
