Calne (Friday 1st May 2020)

To avoid the queue outside Sainsbury's I took a wander around the town. These tulips were in the pop-up garden in the town centre, and the lone swan in Extras was on The Wharf nearby. It has been a while since I've seen the two swans together. Maybe one has moved on.
The queue had gone when I returned, and I was lucky because it was quite long when I came out again.

The Everlies always had A-list session musicians and arrangers on all their recording sessions, be it in Nashville, Hollywood, New York or anywhere else. The line-up on this track was put together by producer Lenny Waronker and arranger Jack Nitzsche after they had completed the album Roots. I think this was only the second occasion they worked with the legendary Jack Nitzsche and nothing from these sessions was released at the time. He had arranged two tracks on their In Our Image CD in 1966.
Mr Soul was a substantially rearranged version of the Buffalo Springfield song from 1967, written by Neil Young. When Jack Nitzsche first met Neil Young he was offered the song Expecting To Fly for the Everlies to record, but persuaded Young to record it himself instead.
Over the last few days I have been listening to the 3CD Down In The Bottom - The Country Rock Sessions 1966-1968, from which this comes.
