International Dawn Chorus Day

Up at 5am this morning to listen to the dawn chorus. A bit late, I could hear the birds singing at 4.20 am. But out at our bench well wrapped up and with a hot cup of tea for 5.20 am. 10 minutes before sunrise (although from our house the rising sun is hidden, and it was a cloudy start in any event).

Blackbirds are the predominant early singers in our area. Lots of hedge sparrow alarm calls to their fledglings. When the cat - the songbird’s main predator in urban areas - walked through the hedge I shooed it off. This is a no cat zone.

Bird song really is the best therapy.
