Orchis

I can't resist sharing this gorgeous combination of colors, even though you might be sick and tired of me going on about orchids.

This one is called 'Sankt Pers nycklar' in Swedish, 'Orchis Mascula' in latin so you can look it up yourself. It grows in abundance this year on Alvaret nearby. The Swedish name means S.t Peters keys but I know nothing about why the orchid is called that. I do know that a lot of these plants were called something quite different in the common language, often quite rude, but the church and science thought it appropriate to name them something more fitting for print.
