I had to look High Key up. This month is a learning exercise.
This clematis flower bud is making a bit of a show of opening up. This is the fanfare stage, announcing that something important is going to happen, and which involves the dramatic opening of the outer elements to reveal the bud itself firmly tight inside. I am noticing so much at home at the moment - and so much more than previous years. So for example, I cannot rightly recall the colour of the flowers ( I think they may be purple).
This plant has never previously had many flowers, but has decided to make a real show this year.
Extra - not really visible in this mono shot, but in colour can be seen the smallest golden coloured insect on top of the bud. I only noticed this when looking at the image.
