RUSTIC CANYON

We went for a hike on this nice, wide trail with beautiful views.
(Best in large view.) In our area, it is always a good idea to look at the trail ahead, because there might be unwelcome surprises.  (See EXTRA)

There are lots of lizards around, which is a good clue that the rattlesnakes are out, too.  The first warm spell brings all the snakes out of hibernation.  People in our neighborhood have reported seeing them in their yards.
So we are always careful & watch for them, because they are especially
deadly for our dogs.

My husband spotted this snake & I was able to get a quick blip before it
slithered into the brush.  We assumed it was a RATTLESNAKE, but when we got home we checked online & we decided it was a young
GOPHER SNAKE.. They get big, & will hiss, but are not poisonous. They eat gophers, mice & rats, so they are welcome in some circles.  Where we saw it was the perfect home for it.

Angus & Scout were completely oblivious, & we continued our hike until it got too hot.  We have been forewarned.
