The easy way or the hard way?

Well, do you want it the easy way or the hard way? You can walk through the gate, or hoist up your skirts and clamber over the wall.

Actually there's a straightforward reason for this.  In days gone by the church gate would be open on Sunday for services. The only way to keep livestock out the rest of the time was to lock up. So if you needed to visit the graveyard at other times, you needed another way in. Over the wall you had to go.

A stylish ladder nonetheless. And lovely local sandstone. The lichen on the end of the steps is a clear indication how clean the air is.
