Close Quarters

I positioned myself so I could shoot up towards the blossom setting them against the white featureless sky. At least I thought it was white, until I saw the image in LR, which shows it is more blue. Rather than eye popping contrast, such as in yesterday's post, here the transitions are subtle and intended to feature the soft textures of the petals and colourful stamens.

I was able to isolate the blossom further by using a long telephoto to get in close, throwing even nearby branches out of focus.

I was surprised at how much in shadow the backlit foreground petals were, despite the low lighting conditions. I think that added to the amount of detail captured.
