Life is a Challenge!

Rhubarb, Rhubarb, Rhubarb!!

There's great excitement in our house this morning!

My husband, who is the gardener (I am just the gardener's assistant!) came in from looking round "the estate" and was thrilled to be able to tell me that the rhubarb is coming up!! Got me - and him - thinking of rhubarb crumble and custard - a wonderful old-fashioned pudding - and our mouths were watering.

Decided I would blip the rhubarb, but then the rain started, so was rather disappointed, but soon the rain stopped, the sun came out, and I was there, camera in hand, ready to blip this miracle of nature.

All winter long this little plant has been under the wet and claggy soil, struggling for breath, and then had to suffer persistent rain, hard frosts and finally a snowy blanket, but now............. Spring is coming and plants have to start their new life - or die - it's as simple as that!

So, the alternative to living is dying - and who would choose that?

Reminded me of a verse - I know it talks about a grain of wheat, but it could quite easily be rhubarb!!

Listen carefully: Unless a grain of wheat is buried in the ground, dead to the world, it is never any more than a grain of wheat. But if it is buried, it sprouts and reproduces itself many times over. In the same way, anyone who holds on to life just as it is destroys that life. But if you let it go, reckless in your love, you'll have it forever, real and eternal.
John 12 : 24-25
The Message

Is your rhubarb sprouting yet? Perhaps you haven't even looked - we shall be watching over ours and willing it to grow big and strong and remind ourselves of all those lovely rhubarb crumbles to come!!
