Gilmore Ponds Metro Park

Sunday
Another grey gloomy day, though very warm - definitely T-shirt and capris/shorts sort of weather! After watching and singing along with our virtual church service, we called my sister Janet and brother and sister-in-law Peter and Judy, and had a good chat. Then it was time for our daily exercise. We tried out a new destination today, Gilmore Ponds Metro Park, a Butler County Park on the west side of town. I have seen a lot of birding photos from there on Facebook, so I wanted to check it out. However, whilst there were many birds to be heard, there weren’t many to be seen, close up at any rate. At one of the ponds, though, we could see (through binoculars) about three herons nests, and a large number of cormorant nests in the trees on the far side of the pond. As you will see from my collage, there were also wildflowers in abundance. It’s definitely a place to check out again, but maybe fairly early in the morning next time, in the hopes of seeing more bird life. In the evening I made us a roast beef dinner, washed down with some red wine of course!
