Monarch...

.................................Butterfly

A recently emerged monarch - long enough for its wings to fill with fluid and to fully expand. I have it inside in a butterfly castle as the overnight temperatures continue to drop outside.

The dry chrysalis casing above this male butterfly is the tiny space it emerged from this morning.

Thank you for your lovely response to yesterday’s cheeky wee native South Island Robin - they aren’t a common sight so I was thrilled this one entertained us on part of our bush walk. Thank you to those who took the time to check out the collage showing a selection of different coloured fungi discovered on the same walk.

There were no new cases of Coronavirus cases in NZ, but the total has actually increased by four. These are historical cases - Kiwis who returned home with the virus from a cruise ship and it was unknown if they had been counted and notification sent to WHO by the Uruguay government for statistic purposes. As they hadn’t, they have been added to NZ’s figures.
