Watch Your Step

While playing golf today, I saw two different rattlesnakes.  The first one was on a tee box sunning himself in the 80-degree heat. You want to give these venomous rattlesnakes a wide berth.  I saw the second one, with his head down inside a gopher hole a hour later. (EXTRA). This one may have been a gopher snake.  I didn't grab his tail to find out.
Rattlesnakes are widespread in California and are found in a variety of habitat throughout the state from coastal to desert. They may also turn up around homes and yards in brushy areas and under wood piles.
