Hit The Road Jack

The groundskeepers at the course where I golf  assembled this scarecrow, just off one of the greens to scare the starlings away.  They make a big mess on the green and eat all of the seed laid down when the greens are cut and punched. The worst nuisance bird species in North America, Starlings are considered to be invasive.

They are loud, obnoxious, destructive birds who steal grain, ravage crops and force out native bird species. Many of the problems created by starlings come from their large population. Flocks can number in the thousands, and when a flock of this size settles on a field, the damage they can do is considerable. Starlings are particularly terrible in their attacks on crops such as grapes, olives, cherries and grains. In new grain fields starlings pull up the young plants and eat the seeds.

If the scarecrow doesn't do the trick, the course has a resident border collie that know how to chase them away and gets a kick out of doing it. EXTRA
