jeni and the beans

Back to our roots

Church this morning. Late...! Took Bean down to his group (with a fireman, policeman and dinosaur in his backpack) and kissed him 'bye, took Bear down to creche and settled in for the morning. He seemed pretty chilled and happy so I thought I'd attempt an escape - went into the main meeting and managed maybe five minutes, enough to share communion with Steve anyway (he'd saved me some!) before being called back in, Bear was very upset.

He wouldn't leave my side after that. He would go maybe five paces and stop and burst into tears and need rescuing, distraught. My five minutes may have been nice but I'm paying for them. He thought I'd simply disappeared and as leaving him is not something I do... :(

Talked to so many people after the meeting! Missed them a lot. Lots to chat about :) And then home, but first to the DiY store for paint. We made the fastest home decorating decision ever, and chose sky blue paint for the bathroom! Bean begged and begged for his own small pot of sky blue paint and we gave in and came home with little and large.

He wanted to paint so after lunch while Steve was up in the bathroom fixing the ceiling and once Bear had gone to sleep and settled on the sofa we got all the paints and the roll of paper out. Surprisingly Bean was actually happy to help clear the painting area (kitchen floor) and didn't get bored! We painted one big canvas each. Bean declared his was for his friend Rosie. Amazingly we got both canvases peeled off the floor and attached to the wall to dry just before Bear woke up! We also managed a handprint almost-heart from Bean - it's the one that'll get used as cards anyway ;)

Bear had some fun in the afternoon too. He had a tubular pencil tin and some plastic spoons. He was learning and remembering that one end of the tin was sealed, and that sometimes he had to turn it round to get the spoons posted in. And he was learning about gravity too, when the spoons fell out if he tipped the tin up!

Steve has battled in the bathroom all afternoon, re-plastering the ceiling with joint compound as he was so unhappy with the first attempt! It's looking good though :)
