The way things were

I was at a meeting today in Glasgow's wonderful new Riverside Museum and couldn't resist this blip.

Glasgow was the last city in the UK (apart from Blackpool) to have trams running through its streets. Indeed up until it closed in 1962, the service was the biggest anywhere in the UK.

This tram is a Cunarder (No 1392) and was the very last double decker tram ever made in Britain. Cunarders followed the iconic Coronation models but were never seen as being quite as comfortable.

I'm too young to remember the trams (I wasn't yet born in 1962) but I sure do wish they were still around.
