Fungal magic

The Dryad's saddle fungus  Polyporus squamosus that I posted a couple of  days ago is growing rapidly and is beginning to look rather like the Starship Enterprise. This fungus produces its spores from pores underneath the cap, rather than from the gills employed by most mushrooms. As you can see, the pores are beginning to open and soon untold millions, or perhaps billions or even trillions of spores will be released into the air to be carried away to pastures new
