The lighthouse on Helliar Holm

Distantly. Today I was volunteering on the island of Shapinsay with the RSPB. Four of us, two staff and two volunteers , took out a long section of barbed-wire fence. It's always a pig of a job- getting spiked, struggling to get posts up, freeing the bottom wires from dense grass and heather, but I actually like it because I loathe such fences. The weather was all over the place; we had hot sun, hail and snow. Not too bad really- at least there was no real rain and no wind. There is still a fair section to go and we'll be back next week. I will be at the big shop run by Birsay Farmers to buy some thicker gloves first.
