Another Lady’s Slipper Orchid

This hybrid is called Ulla Silkens

The result of crossing a pink-red American variety (Cypripedium reginae) with a yellow variety found in Russia and in the Himalayas (Cypripedium flavum). The result is a beautiful flower with whitish pink petals covered by a variable number of red spots.

A couple of years ago the original plant got too large. It had over 40 blooms on it. Mrs. K. gathered up her courage and split it into six plants. Two are here in this shot. One is elsewhere in the garden. Two were given away and one died. I think that can be called a success.

The extra shows a closeup of one of the flowers.
