Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Blast off!

Rufus and his mum popped in for a cuppa in the front garden, but when they’d gone, we moved to the back garden - it was too hot to sit out the front - we had to move to the back, in the morning shade! Never happened before. I cut the grass.

When Archie had gone off with Elizabeth, we popped round to visit our pal Mary. She’d been in hospital last week, and is going in again next week for some major surgery, poor wee thing. They wanted to keep her in hospital till then, but she insisted on coming home. Her family have been looking after her, and she feels so much better to be able to sit out in her garden in the sunshine, rather than stuck in hospital with no visitors.

In the afternoon Elizabeth came through the house (!) and we sat in the back garden - she didn’t touch anything! We had a G&T, and then the neighbour from upstairs also came and also had a G&T. Then the family came down (three wee girls) and once Archie had stopped barking hysterically, they pestered him non-stop to do tricks (with treats). You can see that he’s just not used to all the attention from small humans with loud squealy voices, but he did quite well.

We had tea outside, with the girls chattering to us non-stop. The youngest one (about 2) has hidden her father’s credit cards and they haven’t found them yet. Her mum said she lost her phone for a while, but found it in the potatoes. Is there a name for someone who hides stuff? It’s great that they have the back garden to play in, especially so when they couldn’t get out so much in the strict lockdown.

A successful launch! Still pretty amazing.
