Blackbird chick

I walked the dog this morning and saw a male blackbird on the pedestrian in front of me, coming from what looked like a hole in the wall at the left side and escaping to the right.
Coming closer I saw this little chick, left (I hope temporarily) by its mother.
Perhaps it couldn't fly yet, at least it was in no way trying to escape.
Or perhaps it was participating in the Darwin Award contest.
