Adventurous Explorers

It was Grandma who suggested that me and mum should go on an outing today. Thanks Grandma for being in my corner! It was sunny and not too hot so mum said Yes. She made an egg and caviar sandwich and coffee, which she packed in our adventure backpack and we were off!

We went to the dog club first. The electric wild boar fence that was there last time had been taken down. Hopefully the boars had gotten the message. Then we took out the orienteering map, because there were several checkpoints we could take along the way, two were on the way to the bird lakes.

At the lake were several people, dogs and in the water, rather close to the walkway between the lakes, a nest with ten or so minuscule coot babies! Mum took a quick picture and then we were off so as not to disturb them.

We reached our picnic rock, which is a rather tall, flat rock where we have our picnic. Mum has to climb up with the help of a tree. It’s the second time now, which makes it a tradition! Picnic on the rock! Yay!

Then mum said: Alice, there is a black orienteering checkpoint not far away. Shall we try it? (Black is the most difficult) OK! Said I. So we did. It involved some tricky terrain, but we found it! THEN mum said: Alice! Shall we try to go from here through the woods directly to the dog club? Following the map? No matter there is no cell phone reception. I’m good at reading maps! Famous last words...

To make a long story short we ended up walking in a big circle, then having to walk back all the way to the picnic rock and then the normal path to the dog club. But I didn’t mind much. It WAS an adventure!
