The Edge of the Wold

Docking

A tree bee is about to perform a complex docking manoeuvre with the pendent flower of a Nectaroscordum umbel, legs akimbo as she prepares to brace herself against the inside of the flower.  The tree bees have a particular liking for the flowers which are just past their peak now.  The garden is gradually being taken over by these plants which disperse themselves profusely through the beds and now the meadow/lawn.  We are now at peak bee in our garden, and there is a background hum as they go busily about their work collecting pollen and nectar.

Watching the bees visiting the flowers, I was reminded of how two dimensional our world is compared with these aerial gymnasts. Their lives are short, yet their senses and flight control are so sophisticated, the living world really is full of wonders.

I took some time out from watering plants and painting outside walls to simply enjoy being in the garden in this extraordinary weather.  It was after all one of those days that comes just once a year for all of us (apart from the Queen).  Another significant milestone. And there was good news after last week's blood test, all clear for another 4 months.
