OAK TREE

Many cities in California protect their native trees, including the native oak; which is probably why this road was constructed around this beautiful tree.  (SEE EXTRA)  Many old oak trees were destroyed by developers, ranchers, & even vineyard owners.  Now, with the new laws, many cities require permits to even trim the native oaks.  Too little, too late.
There are very few left, even though a city in our county is named
Thousand Oaks.

This is my favorite old oak tree in our area, & I will go out of my way to see it, even though it is across town.  It is probably 200-300 years old &
miraculously survived all the recent development. I hope it will be here
for my great grandchildren.

is to plant trees
under whose shade
you do not expect to sit."
