King Dardanus' Stone

My work involved a lunchtime engagement in Ballater today, and afterwards I returned to my office in Banchory along the B976 South Deeside Road, keeping straight ahead at Allancreich to take the loop through Finzean, Feuchside and Strachan.

I took a momentary break at Corsedardar, a place I seldom find the opportunity to visit.

A plaque at Corsedardar records that King Dardanus' Stone was damaged back in the 19th century by workmen maintaining or improving the road, but the local laird insisted on repairing it with three iron bands on either side, and re-erecting it in its current position.

Notice the Saltire that has been painted on a rock in the middle distance, no doubt with the forthcoming Referendum in view...
