The Flight of the Fetternear Flock

Driving through Fetternear on the way home from Inverurie this lunchtime, we saw a flock of sheep on the road ahead of us that we imagined were being driven from one field to another.

But as we drew closer, there was not a farmer, a shepherd or a sheepdog to be seen anywhere - but sheep were (as seen in today's photo) still charging out of the field on our left and heading off down the road in the direction of Blairdaff.

The sheep then met with a car coming towards them from the Blairdaff direction, which stopped them in their tracks. They began turning around and heading back our way, so we moved our car diagonally across the road to discourage the sheep from heading off towards Inverurie.

Just then another 4x4 came up the road, overtaking the car that had stopped ahead of us, and driving the sheep back into their field. The farmer then pulled over and got out to complete the operation, thanking us for our help and our patience, while a younger man got out of another car that had followed, to round up a couple of sheep that had strayed into another nearby field.

So all ended happily, so it seems.
