Strange Country

We took a walk this evening and ventured down an unadopted road outside the village.  It has been developed with new houses, mostly self-build and looking very smart.  We stopped to talk to someone who lived there 65 years ago, in a bungalow when the view was trees and a piggery.  His house had cost £1200 then but most of the houses would now cost north of £700k.

It was a peaceful stroll along the dirt road, full of potholes, but we were brought up short by Trespassers will be Prosecuted sign.  My walking companion still doesn't believe that two people can't be "prosecuted" as there is no law of Trespass for fewer than three people so refused to walk further.  I learned civil law during a spell training as a chartered accountant; although I failed six of the seven exams at the end of my articles I remember a great deal of the commercial law part of it.

Oh well.  Anything for a quiet life, unchallenged by vexatious people.
