Not the usual backyard visitor

The northern flicker is a large brown woodpecker and a rare visitor to our backyard buffet. According to "All About Birds," they eat mainly ants and beetles and can sometimes be found digging on the ground. They don't usually come to bird feeders, but will visit bird baths. It's a good thing I have been keeping my bird bath full! I have never seen one in our back yard, but will keep my eyes open in the future.

Today's extra is the redheaded woodpecker, who once again made an early morning visit. Yay!
