Little & Large

The local hawthorn (?) is in full bloom and the bees are loving it!
Bad news - one of the three fantastic, ancient elms that dominate our local gardens is diseased and has to come down. Ironic really; one of the few elms in Edinburgh not to succumb to Dutch elm disease and it gets white rot instead. If it was standing in a forest somewhere it would no doubt last for years yet while the decay spread and limbs and trunks tumbled down but you can’t really have that in gardens so unfortunately it’s for the chop. It’s going to leave a huge gap on the horizon!
On a happier note, I was happily being buzzed by swallows and housemartins this afternoon. Feeding frenzy at the allotment. Way, way too fast to even think about getting the camera out, so I just enjoyed the experience.
