Natural Perch

Filtered light from behind the trees on the left created warm tones across the marsh grass and picked out the branch of a fallen tree.

As I shaped up to take my shot, a commotion caught my attention as a pair of blackbirds squabbled over a mate. One alighted on the branch which I managed to capture, but the framing was not ideal because the branch too low.

Too slow as usual, by the time I had arranged my composition, the bird had flown away. I took the shot I wanted without the bird and composited the bird into place. I hear some complain that's not photography, but I made the images moments apart of the same scene. I can live with that.
