A blackbird sings from a songpost

I swivelled my camera around when I heard the beautiful sound of this male blackbird. He had taken up a regular position late in the afternoon looking out over the valley to sing to us all.

The chosen spot, now in our neighbour's back garden, is from the rather unfortunate electricity supply pole, which was the preferred method for power to be delivered to this remote field when the houses were built in 1937. It does have advantages for birdwatchers as it has been the chosen perch for green woodpeckers, great spotted woodpeckers, jays, pigeons, jackdaws, crows, swallows, wagtails, tits, goldfinches and probably many more.
