Holy Well, Pilton, Barnstaple

For Freespiral's challenge around Inter National Holy Well day I recalled that just around the corner from where I live is a Ladywell - a Holy Well - sadly it is found at the end of a lane, so not readily passed or walked by.

I googled it and found these excerpts:

Holy Well or Sacred Spring in Devon.
Ladywell is the name of the ancient well hidden away behind the church of St Mary the Virgin in Pilton, Barnstaple, North Devon. Barnstaple is the oldest borough in the country, and Pilton is one of the oldest parts of the town.
In his book, 'Secrets of the Hidden Source', author Terry Faull says:
"A small arched recess protected by a metal grill sits in the wall of the lane and receives water from the spring. Renovation work was carried out in the 1980s and this Holy Well then had the unusual distinction of being blessed by a senior member of the Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Anthony of Sourozh. This was a splendid ceremony of blessing which was attended by several hundred people and is perhaps the most recent example of an ancient Holy Well in Devon being re-dedicated to its proper status.
