more good news

Good news:
- wearing masks dramatically reduces transmission
- the protests against police killing Black people has not sparked a new Covid wave
- the Supreme Court ruled against deporting immigrants who were brought to the country as children

The second means that being outside with masks is reasonably safe.

In a hair salon a symptomatic stylist cut over 80 people's hair and none of them have tested positive. Everyone wore masks and distanced. (The stylist was told by her doctor that she probably had allergies.)

The bad news is that wearing a mask to protect other people is beyond the moral capabilities of an awful lot of people. On the bright side, it is now really easy to assess someone's character with just a glance.

The extra is the third and final whistle. I believe I bought the whistles for Karen when I was at the Grand Canyon. My friend from Sri Lanka lost her job in the Great Recession. I had taken a very poorly paying job. Unemployed, she had to leave the country and the Grand Canyon was on her bucket list. We arranged the cheapest trip we could. We flew out on airfare miles on Christmas Eve and got a discounted room. It was a great time to go, much less crowded, and now I've been!

We do Phase II opening tomorrow at 5 pm.
