Pineapple folly

With lockdown lifting we ventured out to see the Pineapple near Grangemouth.

This is considered one of the most bizarre and beautiful follies in the UK.

Set in six aces of walled garden it was idyllic on this hot summer day and we were among a small number of visitors to this free public visitor attraction.

It was built in 1761 by the Earl of Dunmore as his summerhouse.

The Earl had one greenhouse devoted to growing pineapples, regarded as an exotic fruit only afforded by the wealthy.

Today you can rent the Pineapple as a holiday home.
