Our mountaineering club has a monthly sunday climb but of course, due to the coronavirus outbreak, it had been suspended... until today!

We went to Wharncliffe crags near Sheffield, somewhere new to me, and first impressions weren't good as there were piles of boulders of all sizes lining the base of the crag. It was hard work scrambling over and around them to get to where we wanted to begin climbing. But the rock is lovely. It's gritstone but nothing like at Stanage, it's more edgy and angular with no slopers in sight, really enjoyable.
