Marbled White

Melanargia galathea. This butterfly is found in warm woodland areas and forest clearings often alighting on purple flowers.

We  all went for a walk this morning in a local wood which was full of butterflies and the Common Spotted Orchid (see extra).  Much work is being done there with the felling and removal of many conifers. Most of the timber goes for chopping to make wood chip bedding for horses.  The owner is replacing them with broadleaved trees.

 Really good to be out somewhere completely different for a change and with company.
