Aylesbury

I had a couple of hours to explore Aylesbury this morning while my car was being serviced.  Today the population is just under 60,000 and the town is a big commercial centre, but there are some lovely old streets especially around the parish church of St Mary.

Aylesbury was made the county town of Buckinghamshire in 1529 by Henry VIII.  It may or not be a coincidence that Aylesbury Manor was owned by Anne Boleyn's father.  Henry had been pursuing Anne since 1526 but only finally married her in 1533.  They were married for only 3 years before she was beheaded for treason.
