The View From A Different Range

(Back Blip #2)

The Bighorn Fire has burned 52,000 acres in and around the Catalina Mountains on the north side of Tucson.  I could see the haze from my house over the Santa Rita mountains (I'm a very, very safe distance away) and wanted a better view.  So I drove to higher ground. Those are the Catalinas. My lens wasn't nearly adequate to show how wide the smoke plume was spread. This was taken from about 50 miles away. A local news outlet posted this time-release scary video from a couple days ago. Don't let the pause during the lovely sunrise lull you to sleep.  Keep watching.

Because this one's local, I've been giving it attention but the Bush Fire outside of Phoenix, which is headed towards being the largest wildfire in AZ history, has already burned 184,000 acres. A new one nearby (named the Central Fire), has already burned 4,000 acres with zero percent containment.  So far in 2020,  three times as many acres have burned in Arizona as in all of 2019.

Tucson and Phoenix are about 116 mi (186.7 km) apart; just over a 2 hour drive.

Such a very sad day for blip as we have lost a great friend. May Admirer's spirit linger with us forever.
