In a Different Light

Dear Diary,

While wandering in the garden, I found my little "golden" dragonfly of yesterday in quite a different light.  Still perched on the solitary stick, I could clearly make out the amazing detail of this female's transparent wings.  It is a Calico Pennant dragonfly. Females have lovely yellow "hearts" on their tales; males are red.  I've since learned that there are two types of dragonfly, fliers and perchers.  The former seek their prey by constant movement through the air while the later, like the wee Calico, patiently perch and wait for lunch to come to them.  I think if I were a dragonfly, I would be a percher!
