By some queer twist of fortunes, after yesterday's spotted woodpecker dinner I witnessed early this morning the breakfast of the red-backed shrike or lanius collurio. She had caught a mouse, which she swallowed whole. I do not know, how she can manage to fly with that much added weight in her body. I managed to get a whole series of shots of the process.
