Goldfinch At Newport Wetlands

Contractual Goldfinch on teasel photo!

One of those off the cuff decisions this morning to go to Newport Wetlands ... I had to remember the way there, it's my first visit since the 8th November (as far as I can tell).

We made it to 3am this morning with the Superbowl, but the power cut put paid to us getting to the end, so we recorded the final quarter and got up and watched it at breakfast. I'm glad we didn't find out the result as it was a real nail biter.

So, after three days vegging on the sofa Dawn said let's get some fresh air, and we ended up on a chilly, windy, wetlands in Gwent. It was fairly quiet on the birding from, something like 24 species, but there was some nice views of decent sized flocks of Knots all feeding on the incoming tide.

We came across these Goldfinches feeding on the thistle heads as we came out of the copse. It would have been rude not to have blipped one.
