So Young

I learned the hard way today that Red-winged Blackbirds build their nests low to the ground, and sometimes very close to the water in marshy areas. I was on the grassy path at a favorite local wildlife area when a female blackbird dive bombed me, squawking and screeching.  There was only one reason for such aggressive behavior, and sure enough a baby flew out of the weeds.  I was happy to see she could fly, but she didn't even have her full head feathers yet.  Another one didn't have any head feathers at all.  I felt so badly.  I hope that mom can round them back up and get them snuggled back in, if that's where they still need to be.
