Diary Blip (Thursday 2nd July 2020)

Sorting out the mess created by the rogue roofers who were trying to scam me a month or so ago has taken quite a while and they never removed a set of ladders they left dumped on my property that I now need to get rid of.

Of all the people from whom I have since requested quotes only two showed up and neither of those then sent me their promised quotations. Meanwhile, the property has been in a vulnerable state, with damp penetrating the limestone walls.

Finally, this week some progress has been made from a national roofing company and they have put up some temporary covering to prevent further damp. Scaffolding has been erected and permanent remedial work should begin on Monday. They had fortuitously been working on a building behind my driveway and had seen the state of affairs from the site.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
"5" Royales - Say It (recorded August 1957, King Studios, Cincinatti OH)
I've recently been working my way through a box set of the "5" Royales recording career. They formed in 1951 as a gospel group but soon turned to doo-wop and rock and on the road their bass vocalist Lowman Pauling added electric guitar. Unfortunately it was six years before he was let loose in the studio, making his debut on the single Think, which he wrote and was later a big hit for James Brown. His guitar work is now what the group are chiefly remembered for and he was the main inspiration for future guitarists such as Steve Cropper from Booker T. and the MG's. Say It was recorded six months later as the follow up to Think and is probably an even better record.
