Smokey 1708 hr (Tuesday 2nd July 2019)

Archie passed its MOT this morning but stayed at the garage until a new tyre was wheeled over late this afternoon, so I had a day at home.

Smokey spent the day sunbathing on the car port roof, but made sure he was in view while I was in the garden, just in case I might forget to feed him. Here he is on the path by the front yard.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Electric Light Orchestra - Mr Blue Sky (recorded August 1977, Musicland Studios, Munich)
I've now reached ELO's seventh album in my box set, Out Of The Blue. Jeff Lynne considered this double-album to be his best work to date - the songs came easily and quickly and he had the confidence and skill to produce a full orchestra and chorus alongside the band, all squashed into the studio space at Musicland. Perversely, I didn't think it was as consistently strong as the previous album The New World Record, but by far the best thing on it is this single. In the UK the single was the full length album version while in the US it was ended prior to the coda at the end. It was covered in 2002 by Scottish band the Delgados and more recently by Lily Allen.
