A special place

Six of us walked out to Vallay today, a now uninhabited island off the north coast of North Uist. Two kilometres across the sand and one arrives at a different world and time.
The ruins of one of the largest houses on the islands melancholically dominates the view with the machair full of flowers and, one imagines, looking like the whole coastal strip did fifty years ago.
One couldn't say it was good weathert - we got soaked on the way acorss - but the occasional shaft of sunshire made it all worthwhile.
The tides dictate either a short two hour stay or a rather longer one - Tricia determined that we must go back for a longer visit at some stage.
Then it was time to head north to pick up some takeaway curries before the weekly shop in Balivanich. That said with 3.5kg of live prawns delivered as we were leaivng in the morning and a neighobur, I, dropping of some pollack on our return in the evening, shopping seeemed almost superfluous.
D&J around in the evening to eat the aforementioned curry and drink some wine and so, all in all, a busy day.
