Long Crendon

I drove the long way back from Waitrose through the village of Long Crendon.  We stayed here when we were house hunting, in a fabulous B&B, Long Crendon Manor.

In the 11th century, it was owned by Walter Giffard, the right hand man of William the Conqueror.  Then it was owned by the Abbots of nearby Notley Priory, until it passed into private owership.  Maybe they both owned a huge amount of property, or maybe it's a complete coincidence, but our last village in Wiltshire, 3 hours' drive away, was also owned by Walter Giffard and Notley Priory ran our local church.  Bits of the house date from the 11th, 12th, 14th and 15th centuries.

As well as being an up-market B&B, Long Crendon Manor is a film and TV location, and a pig farm, producing (delicious) "posh pork".

The shadows under the thatch of one of the village houses in the extra caught my eye.
