Penny for a Hospital

This is a sculpture of a 1927 Penny.  It is made up of 3 parts and you need to walk around it to get the individual parts to line up and depict a penny.

Why a penny?  Although the hospital on this site is now a new building, just after the first World War is was decided to build a hospital as a fitting War Memorial and an appeal for funds was launched, asking the population of Selby to donate one penny per month.  The hospital was completed in 1927, hence the date on the sculpture.
The sculpture was erected in 2012 shortly after the rebuilding of the hospital in 2011
