China in Your Hand

Hard to believe it was less than a week ago that I was celebrating actually being able to sit inside a cafe for the first time in four months, yet today was my third such visit this week! Well worth celebrating though as it was the first where proper crockery was available. We used to be regular visitors to M&S Cafe (Mrs C used to work there) and though there were a lot less tables than before, it was still the same friendly staff. In the past, we used to help out by clearing our own table after we’d finished but were told we had to leave everything so they could tell which tables needed cleaning before the next customers could sit down. Some strange face mask rituals observed - the couple who had been sitting without them, retrieving some grubby looking bits of material from their pockets, which they donned before leaving the cafe area. The lady who was fully masked, gloved and sanitised upon entering the cafe, then shed the lot as soon as her coffee arrived! But, each to their own, whatever makes you happy. I tend to take my lead from the staff who have been working in that environment for the last four months. If they feel it’s safe enough not to wear a mask, then that’s ok by me.
But all this might be academic. There is a suggestion that Boris is to make face coverings mandatory in all shops, which would probably mean this, and similar in store cafes having to close as, otherwise, you’d have different rules within the same building.
We truly live in interesting times.
