Mysterious black basil blobs

A basil plant arrived from the supermarket the other day. I didn’t notice straight away that the leaves had been chomped on. Now, a few days later, Mr Pandammonium noticed all these black things, one or two millimetres across, had dropped from it, and some were stuck to the leaves.

Any ideas what they are?
