Zero miles

This mundane stone pillar stands at the junction of Hanover Street and Cross Street in Fraserburgh. It is actually the blank milestone from which all distances from Fraserburgh to other towns was measured. Mile posts indicating the distance from Fraserburgh were placed at intervals along the turnpike roads radiating out from the town. The extra shows the street corner where it is situated (to the left of the house door on the right).Hanover Street was named as such after 1745 by a Council toadying to the victors of the Jacobite defeat. However, by 1799 the Town Council minutes referred to Hanover Street as Puddle Stink Street.
